James Richardson International Airport

The James Armstrong Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, Manitoba is the first free-standing airport in Canada and the second in North America to be LEED certified.

“Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects have delivered a world-class design that is both exciting and responsible,” said Barry Rempel, President & CEO of the Winnipeg Airports Authority. “More than a place to transport people and products, the new terminal truly reflects the spirit of the community.”

The design intent was to create a warm atmosphere that also met the acoustical requirements.  The products selected for the ceilings and walls were chosen for their superior sound absorption characteristics.  The departures area features Architectural Components Group Linear Wood Ceilings in Cherry veneer on fire rated cores.

Gordon Inc supplied AV3000 extruded aluminum tee used to suspend the linear wood ceilings.  The tee was factory curved to the exact radius required allowing the precise alignment seen here.

Architectural Components Group’s unique Concerto Wall System was used throughout the Airport.  There are grooved Cherry veneer absorbing panels near the escalators.  White non-perforated and diffusing panels were used in the departures areas.
